Hopes of staying up go West at Penrith

WEST PARK, at the foot of National Three North and destined to relegation, continue to be plagued by injuries.

Last Saturday was no exception with the game reduced to uncontested scrums at Penrith in the final quarter because the Merseysiders had lost the services of their entire front row through injury.

Only Joe Bailey, when he came on for skipper Adam Glover, showed anything like his old form together with Mike Millward and Chris Lane.

This Saturday Park have to travel to Stockport with the Cheshire outfit looking strong contenders for promotion. Fly half Mark Ovens is also doubtful having joined the injury list last weekend.

Meanwhile, former Chester star Ben Foden was called into battle for England against the Irish at Twickenham in the 49th minute, replacing Delon Armitage at full-back last Saturday. The 25-year-old is now with Northampton and previously with Sale Sharks.
