Widnes RUFC earn excellent win at Anselmians

WIDNES pulled off an excellent win at third-place Anselmians to really tighten things up at the top of South Lancs Cheshire 1.

The visitors enterprising style saw them leading at the break 17-12 with tries from hooker Ben Glover and Paul Borg, both of which were converted by Kevin Leadbetter who also kicked a penalty.

The home side had to rely on the boot of Simon Mason who kicked four penalties.

In the second-half, Widnes extended their lead with a Leadbetter penalty and then another try from scrum-half Michael Lamb.

After Widnes lost a player to the sin-bin which disrupted their rhythm, Ansemians got back into it with a converted try and then two more Mason penalties to leave the visitors hanging on at the end.
