St Helens CC captain Bob Kenny happy to see St Helens Recs CC team having a good season

ST HELENS skipper Bob Kenny believes local rivals St Helens Recs are “nailed on” to achieve promotion to the First Division of the Bridging Finance (NW) Liverpool Competition this season.

The Ruskin Drive side are already well ahead of the chasing pack led by their near neighbours in Windleshaw Road, and rookie captain Kenny believes it will be good for the town’s cricket if both sides prosper.

“I’m pleased that both Recs and ourselves are going well,” he said.

“While the two teams are very competitive, we don’t hate each other.

“As I see it, Recs have got a lot of quality in their side and I can’t see them losing many.”

Tomorrow, Kenny will be leading St Helens at home to Wavertree and hoping to maintain a run which has seen his team bounce back from a poor start to win four of their last five league games.

“The mix in the side is very pleasing and useful to me,” he said. “Admittedly, we’ll be without Gary Sheppard for a little while yet and Robbie Supria won’t be available until he’s finished his law degree at Nottingham, but I’ve got Adam Friar and Darren Tyms if I need some old heads for advice.

“Given that we were one of the four sides who went down from the First Division last season, it was very important to have a stable nucleus of players in my first season in charge.”
