Skupski and Fleming beaten by the Bryans

LIVERPOOL’S Ken Skupski has immediately turned his attentions to reviving Great Britain’s desperate Davis Cup plight after his Wimbledon hopes were dashed by former champions the Bryan brothers.

Skupski and doubles partner Colin Fleming could not recover from a sluggish start against the number two seeds and 2006 champions Mike and Bob Bryan of the USA, going down in straight sets 6-2, 6-4, 7-6 (5).

Fleming and Skupski, dubbed Flemski, burst onto the scene just over 12 months ago at Queen’s, downing the Bryan brothers to announce themselves on the world stage.

Last week they notched up their first ever Wimbledon victory against marathon man Nicolas Mahut and Arnaud Clement but a repeat performance against the Bryans proved beyond them on Monday.

But with Great Britain’s win or bust clash with Turkey rapidly approaching there is no time to dwell on his Wimbledon disappointment – defeat for GB would see them relegated to the bottom tier of the Davis Cup.

And after Flemski proved victorious in their last Davis Cup outing with Lithuania, Skupski insists the duo can do their bit to restore some national pride.

“We started slowly today and against a pair like that, the best the game has ever seen, there is no way back from that,” said Skupski.
