Leigh extend lead after emphatic win

LEIGH extended their lead in the First Division after an emphatic 110-run victory over Sefton Park in their top of the table showdown.

Karl Brown led the way with a brisk 89 off 94 balls in Leigh's 264-8 declared off 55 overs.

After Brown departed, Joseph Davies (47) and Alex Roussak (42) kept Sefton on the back foot. Matthew Lawless (3-56) was the pick of the visiting attack.

Sefton's reply got off to a poor start and from 39-3 there was no way back. Skipper Robbie Houghton top scored with 37 as they were all out for 154 inside 40 overs.

Leigh are now 33 points clear of Sefton with third placed Rainford two points further back.

Rainford lost ground after a surprise four-wicket home defeat at the hands of Formby.

Liverpool were dismissed for just 60 in their crushing seven-wicket defeat at home to Southport & Birkdale.

Fleetwood Hesketh boosted their survival hopes with a 53-run win at home to Orrell Red Triangle.

Wigan were 28-run winners at Maghull.

Bottom club Skelmersdale went down by 96 runs at home to fourth placed Rainhill.

Ben Edmundson (74) and Mike Rotheram (70) starred in Rainhill's 248-6 declared.
