Trinity skipper still has faith in team

SOUTHPORT Trinity skipper Wim van der Walt is looking forward to his side’s home game against St Helens Recs tomorrow – because nobody give his side a chance of winning it.

The Rookery captain admits that David Heyes’s team is “running away” with the Bridging Finance Liverpool Competition’s Second Division title but he still believes that his team is capable of securing a promotion spot.

Recent victories against Sutton and Ainsdale have moved van der Walt’s side up to fifth in the table, a massive 86 points behind their opponents tomorrow though only 35 shy of second-placed St Helens.

“It’s going well,” said van der Walt. “We’ve had a couple of victories in the last fortnight, yet that only makes our earlier defeats against the weaker sides all the more annoying. We should be a lot higher.”

“Our openers Geoff Thornton and Mark Foster have made it easier for me.”
