AUSSIE Peter Mitrevski Jr was certainly wholly relieved that Martin Murray felt “sluggish” throughout their Commonwealth middleweight title fight at the Bolton Arena.
The respected Sydney import was systematically pummelled throughout by the unbeaten St Helens prospect who cruised impressively to a totally one-sided points victory.
Yet despite claiming his first professional championship belt, Murray proved to be his most fierce critic by confessing he was “disappointed” with his almost faultless display.
Despite hardly taking a shot, landing four and five punch combinations in almost every round and sailing through his first 12 rounder without needing to move into top gear, Murray’s success was hampered by regret.
“I just didn’t feel right in there. My legs felt sluggish,” offered the new champion afterwards, despite a far more gratifying response from his legion of travelling fans.
“I’m really happy to finally be the Commonwealth champion of course and I don’t want to take anything away from that, but I know I can perform much better.”
