Didsbury the first team to reach finals day in Cheshire County League T20

DIDSBURY are the first club to reach Finals Day in the Chapel Press Cheshire County League T20 competition sponsored by Red Insure.

They beat Toft on a run rate in a rain-ruined quarter-final and now meet the winners of the Cheadle v Alderley Edge tie scheduled for Thursday. In the bottom half of the draw, Grappenhall host holders Oulton Park, also on Thursday and Irby play Chester Boughton Hall the following evening at Mill Hill Road.

Draw for the semi-finals of the T20 Plate is Bramhall v Macclesfield and Oxton v Warrington, who won by four wickets at Ashton on Mersey on Sunday. The two winners go through to Finals Day, which is at Chester Boughton Hall on Sunday, August 8.

League First Division leaders Widnes slipped up when they lost at home to Cheadle Hulme by five wickets and now have only a one point advantage over Macclesfield, who beat Bollington, and seven over Grappenhall, held to a draw at lowly Upton.

In Division Two, Sale beat Tattenhall by eight wickets and are now only three points behind once runaway leaders Marple, who were held to a draw at third-placed Warrington. Skipper Liam Heaphy top-scored with 62 in Warrington’s tally of 209, former Cheshire off-spinner Andy Greasley taking 5-75 to become the first bowler to top 50 wickets.

Marple replied with 176-8.

Birkenhead Park’s position in the relegation zone did not markedly improve although they recorded a winning draw at home to closest rivals Stockport Georgians. Skipper Chris Foran top-scored 58 in Park’s 211-6, Stockport replying with 127-5.
