Lancashire’s Andrew Flintoff eyeing Roses return in Crosby fixture next week

FORMER England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff remains on course to return from a long injury lay-off in Lancashire’s second XI fixtures against Yorkshire next week.

The 32-year-old, who still hopes to play for England in future limited-overs matches, is set to feature at Crosby where the Roses rivals play a one-day match on Monday and a three-day game starting the following day.

“Hopefully next week possibly there’s a chance of playing in the second team, just as a batter initially and then start picking up the ball from there,” Flintoff said.

“It’s a game I enjoy. I want to play cricket for Lancashire and I want to win more trophies with us.

“I’ll see if I can play at Crosby next week, get myself back in the Lancashire side and take it from there.”

He added: “There’s also a chance in the IPL I’ll play for Chennai again.

“There’s also been offers from Australia which has been quite flattering.

“So there seems to be a little bit of demand but rather than look too far ahead I’m thinking about how do I get off the mark at Crosby next week.”

WEST INDIAN batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul saved Lancashire from embarrassment with an innings of 118 at the Rose Bowl yesterday.

Lancashire captain Glen Chapple chose to bat first in overcast conditions which offered plenty of help to the Hampshire attack and at the close Lancashire had mustered 262 for eight from 96 overs and it could have been far worse but for Chanderpaul.
