RICHARD SILVERWOOD has been appointed to referee the Carnegie Challenge Cup final on August 28.
The match at Wembley between Warrington and Leeds will be Silverwood’s second final appearance, having officiated the game between St Helens and Huddersfield at Twickenham in 2006.
“I am honoured to be given the opportunity to referee the final and I am looking forward to officiating for the first time at Wembley,” said Silverwood.
“I have refereed in many big games during my career, including internationals and World Club Challenges, but the Challenge Cup final is something special.”
Tony Martin and Robert Hicks have been named as Silverwood’s touch-judges.
Meanwhile, Hull captain Sean Long remains on course for a first-team return against Leeds on September 3.
The 33-year-old has missed his side’s last six games after dislocating his elbow against the Dragons on June 26.
The Leeds game, which is likely to be a direct shoot-out for fourth place in the table, was initially pencilled in for Long’s return, and after returning to light training, the scrum-half is confident of making that date.
