THIS was a disappointing result for Liverpool St Helens, who never recovered from conceding a try in the second minute, enabling Northwich to leapfrog over them into fifth spot in North One West.
In a game in which LSH had majority possession and territory, strong tackling and a coordinated defence denied them.
LSH went behind after a booming clearance kick was returned with a try for prop John Brotherton. They were then caught napping when scrum half Mike Gallimore took a quick tap penalty and scored under the posts. Richard Gale converted and added a penalty to give the home side a 15-0 lead.
