Waterloo fall back to earth with loss at Lymm

AFTER the euphoria of last week Waterloo were brought down to earth with a bump losing 23-10 away to newly promoted Lymm, a result that has given director of rugby Jan Van Deventer some cause for concern over his side’s seeming inability to perform away from Blundellsands.

The home side took an 11-0 lead through a try and two penalties before James O’Brien got the visitors on the board with a penalty, the result of good pressure from the Waterloo pack.

However just before the interval Lymm went in for a converted try to make it 18-3 at the break.

A third try early in the second period increased the home side’s lead but Waterloo hit back with the best try of the match.

O’Brien ran back a kick inside his own half to put Jack Weir though the gap before backing up on the inside to take the scoring pass. The winger added the conversion and full credit to the visitors with a solid defensive effort to keep the home side out and take the second 40 5-7.
