A TELLING late rally by Chester denied Waterloo a shock victory in this National Three North League encounter.
The Blundellsands outfit went into the final quarter 23-10 to the good but could not hang on as Chester moved above Stockport at the head of the table with a better points differential.
Wing Chris Mossman grabbed the first Waterloo try. He added the goal and then a penalty for a 10-0 advantage.
Marcus Lyon went in for Chester with Rhys Hayes converting but a Martin Bell touchdown and the extras from Mossman made it 17-7 at the halfway stage.
Mossman and Hayes exchanged penalties after the break before Liam Reeve struck a drop goal for the visitors on 57 minutes.
But then Chester suddenly came alive. Ross White, sub Waisile Navunidakua and Tom Chappell all breached the tiring Waterloo rearguard. Hayes added two of the conversions and a penalty and the stunning comeback was complete.
