Dominant pack helps LSH score vital victory over Northwich

PERSEVERANCE paid off for Liverpool St Helens as they staged a remarkable comeback in this North One West clash against Northwich.

After surviving a scoreless first half in which the visitors had the greater number of chances LSH found themselves 12-0 down after 50 minutes. Then, adapting to the atrocious conditions and showing tremendous determination as well as superior fitness they roared past their rivals for a vital win.

Tries from Ryan McKibbin and Steve Campbell and a Richard Dale conversion gave Northwich the lead before LSH won the game through their dominant pack.

Lock forward Mark Williams plunged over from short range after strong LSH pressure in the 53rd minute before the game was punctuated by the second of two scuffles in a tough game which simmered throughout. By now though LSH were in charge and in the 67th minute, from a multi-phase attack, Simon Worsley threw a long pass to the waiting Matt Cunliffe to score by the posts. Greg Smith converted to level the score.

Smith then edged LSH ahead with a penalty before another strong forwards drive saw Paul Bamber dive over and Smith convert to maintain LSH’s promotion challenge.
