LIVERPOOL HARRIERS’ Anna Rowe clinched an impressive victory in the final Mid Lancs Cross Country League match at Skelmersdale’s Beacon Park.
Rowe raced home in the under-13 girls race ahead of clubmate Molly Thomson to secure silver overall in the series.
Liverpool Pembroke Sefton’s Liam Bibby was second in the under-13 boys with clubmate Jack Crook in third spot.
James Grundy of LPS was the runner-up in the under-15 boys event, beating off the challenge of Harriers duo Owen Sharpe and Kristian Quirk. Harriers’ Beth Strange was third in the under-11 girls, while LPS duo Joe Martin (fifth, U11s boys) and Sean Kirkbride (fourth, U17s boys) also ran well.
As well as Rowe, there were silver medals in the overall series for Harriers’ Emily Gray (U11s girls) and Sharpe (U15s boys), along with LPS’ Crook (U13s boys).
Southport Waterloo’s Amanda Crook was the highest placed local finisher in the senior women’s race as she took fourth place in 18:40.
Southport had four runners in the top 10 of the senior men’s race as they wrapped up the team title for the second successive season. James Tartt led them home in fifth in 28:52.
They needed to defeat Barrow & Furness Striders to retain the title and they did it in style by a margin of 39 points.
The Merseyside Schools team head for Nottingham on Saturday for the English Schools Cross Country Championships.
St Helens Sutton’s Mark Liptrot finished a creditable 30th in the gruelling 32-mile Wuthering Hike fell race in 4:55:50.
