Hardaker recalled for Leeds ahead of St Helens Super League clash

LEEDS have recalled outside back Zak Hardaker from Featherstone following confirmation that Ben Jones-Bishop will be out for 16 weeks with a shoulder dislocation.

The 19-year-old Hardaker joined the Rhinos on a five-year contract last November but was loaned back to the Championship club under the dual-registration system for 2011 and has scored in all five appearances for them so far this season.

However, Hardaker continued to train with Leeds as well as Rovers and he has gone straight in Leeds coach Brian McDermott’s 19-man squad for tomorrow’s home Engage Super League game against St Helens.

He is now set to make his debut in place of Jones-Bishop, who will undergo shoulder surgery this week after being hurt in last week’s win over Salford.

“It is disappointing on three fronts,” said McDermott. “Firstly for Ben as he was performing so well but will now have to put that on hold for the time being.

“Secondly, it is a blow for England as it looked as if we had a very exciting player for the national team.

“And finally for Leeds Rhinos as we will miss out on a talented member of our squad for four months.”

McDermott added: “Zak has shown a real improvement on and off the field in recent weeks.

“He has been getting some good game-time.”
