World Snooker Championship semi-finalist Judd Trump is happy to skip Royal appointment

JUDD TRUMP could not be happier about missing the royal wedding because it means he remains on course for the Crucible crown.

When Prince William and Kate Middleton marry at Westminster Abbey at 11am tomorrow, Trump will be engaged in the second session of his first Betfred.com World Championship semi-final.

Trump joked after his 13-5 win against Graeme Dott that, having led 11-2, he was toying with the idea of letting the Scot close the gap, as he was undecided whether he hoped to watch the wedding.

“That’s why I let Graeme get back into it,” Trump said. “I was going to go 12-all and make my mind up whether I wanted to watch the royal wedding or not. But no, it’s not too much of a disappointment to miss it.”

Trump, with tongue in cheek, bills himself an “international playboy”, but when asked about the future royal princess, the 21-year-old said: “Who’s that? I don’t really know too much about her to be honest.”

The youngster, who grew up in Bristol, claims it will take a lot to stop him in Sheffield after the crushing win against Dott.

He finished off the 2006 champion today with breaks of 67 and 78, and boldly said: “I do feel a little bit invincible at the moment; it’s a good feeling to have.

“But at any stage of this tournament anybody could beat me 13-3 or 13-4 because the standard is so high.

“But I know I can do that to the rest of the players.”

If World Snooker chairman Barry Hearn had been able to design a player to take the game to a new generation, he would surely have come up with one in a similar mould to Trump.

With his elaborate haircut, his swagger on and off the table and his interaction via Twitter with a growing legion of fans, he is emerging as the leader of a new generation of cue stars and fans. “There’s a little gap appearing now,” Trump said. “A lot of the top players are getting that little bit older and there’s a gap for people to come through.”
