Liverpool get the points with win over Triangle

LIVERPOOL were the big winners of the day in the opening round of games in the LDCC Division One.

With many teams struggling to gain results in the bad weather, Liverpool wasted no time in dispatching Orrell Red Triangle and take maximum points.

Triangle were dismissed for just 110 with Daniel Jackson’s 3-15 and Mark Doyle’s 4-22 the standout bowling figures. Liverpool made light work of the target reaching the score in just 25 overs for the loss of three wickets.

An 81 from Alder’s Muhammad Masroor ensured his side posted an impressive 196-8 declared, despite Rainhill’s Mohammed Qureshin’s equally excellent figures of 5-61. Rainhill managed to save a draw reaching 109-8 from their 34 overs, John McClennan’s 3-30 not enough.

St Helens Recs and Sefton Park played out an exciting game. St Helens declared on 163-5 and in reply Sefton always looked capable of reaching the target, but despite a gallant 43 from captain Paul Squires, 14 was required from the last over and with nine wickets down the visitors opted for safety first and saw out the draw.

A fine knock of 70 not out from Wallasey’s Sam Loftus ensured his side reached 223-5 declared. 61 not out from Southport and Birkdale’s Nick Devlin meant the home side were always in contention but 5-44 from Chris Bourne restricted their reply.

Maghull looked to have put themselves in a winning position against Formby after reaching 221-8 declared, Chris Barlow top scoring on 51. Formby’s James Kennedy and Matthew Dearden took three wickets apiece. A 55 not out from skipper Mark Baker ensured they came away with the draw.

Wigan beat Prestatyn by eight wickets.
