Northern Vision tasked with spotting next Mersey tennis stars

THE organisation which spotted world stars like Novak Djokovic and Caroline Wozniacki when they were tennis unknowns, has been charged with discovering the next Andy Murray here on Merseyside.

Northern Vision, the body which organises the Liverpool International Tennis Tournament, is to work in partnership with Liverpool City Council to develop tennis stars of the future.

The aim is to encourage even more of the region’s schoolchildren to join local tennis clubs and enrol on a specialist tennis outreach programme.

The programme, to be managed and run by Northern Vision, will start later this month.

It doesn’t end when the tennis season closes. Young people will be encouraged to continue to develop their skills during the winter and head to Wavertree Tennis Centre to make the most of the top-class facilities.

Northern Vision Founder Anders Borg, said: “My aim when I started Northern Vision and The Liverpool International Tennis Tournament was to make tennis accessible to all and to develop grass root tennis programmes across the City.

“The Council have been incredibly supportive over the years and I hope us working with them on this level will show our support to them and benefit the city.”
