GB 800m star Jenny Meadows to compete at Diamond League meetings in Birmingham and London ahead of the World Athletics Championships in South Korea in August

WORLD 800 metres bronze medallist Jenny Meadows will warm up for this summer’s World Championships with races at the Diamond League meetings in Birmingham and London.

The Wigan athlete will compete at the Aviva Birmingham Grand Prix on July 10 and Aviva London Grand Prix at Crystal Palace over August 5-6.

The 30-year-old opened her outdoor season with victory at the Diamond League event in Shanghai on Sunday, winning in 2:00.54.

“I felt really good out there and am so pleased to start off my season like this,” said Meadows, who won European indoor silver in Paris in March.

“Hopefully I’ll be able to continue to get wins as we lead up to the World Championships (in Daegu, South Korea, in August). I’m very pleased.

“The World Championships are so important to me.

“I would love to better my bronze from Berlin in 2009.

“It was such a good year for me and started a run of success which was just incredible, but I want to keep building on that.

“I was disappointed after Paris, although a silver is great in hindsight. I wanted to get my first major title under my belt and I still do.”
