OVILL MCKENZIE accused Tony Bellew of being a drugs cheat in a heated exchange ahead of their British title fight.
The ‘Bomber’ rejected the Derby man’s claim and says that McKenzie suspects him of substance abuse is a compliment to his conditioning.
McKenzie is angry referee Phil Edwards waved their December humdinger off in the eighth round, insisting he was able to carry on.
Bellew had floored the ‘Upsetter’ in that session and though he beat the count, the Commonwealth champion tore into his rival, prompting the official to step in.
McKenzie is also in disbelief Bellew recovered from two knockdowns inside the opening two rounds at the ECHO Arena and launched the sensational allegation that Bellew has taken performance enhancing drugs to aid his recovery.
Š”The referee stopped it for no reason,” slammed McKenzie (18-10).
“You got up with that look in your eye. I’m a doorman and know that look – you’re on drugs, I swear to God.”
Bellew shrugged off the accusation, saying: “Test me then. Let’s go for a blood test. I’ve been having tests for the last five years.
“You know why I get up? Dedication to the game, because I’m a superior athlete and I’m the best conditioned man you’ve ever faced.”
