GREAT BRITAIN suffered a heartbreaking 64-63 defeat to Lithuania in their EuroBasket Women second-round opener in Poland.
Tom Maher’s side missed the chance to upset the former European champions on the final play of the game, when Julie Page saw an errant pass intercepted to allow Lithuania to hold on.
It was rough justice on Page who led her side with a game-high 19 points and seven rebounds.
Great Britain had led by a single point heading into the final quarter but 16 points from Lithuania’s Ausra Bimbaite edged her side home.
Today’s defeat has left Great Britain needing to win Saturday’s next match against Turkey, who are bottom of the six-team group, to keep any realistic hopes of progressing alive.
They round out the second stage against Russia on Monday before the semi-finals.
