A GLUT of Liverpool Harriers descended on Manchester’s Stretford track on Tuesday night in the quest for mid-season PBs.
As the season hots up, the depth of quality on offer at the bi-weekly event follows suit and Jonny Mellor looked to take full advantage with an assault on the 7:52.6 track record for 3,000 metres.
Familiar with his surroundings after winning over 1,500m at the same venue a fortnight earlier, Mellor produced the second sub-eight clocking of his career to finish second in 7:59.40. Leeds City’s James Wilkinson claiming victory in 7:55.6.
Fellow Liverpool Harrier Matthew Clowes picked up a PB over the slightly shorter 1,500 trip to place third in the men’s A race in a time of 3:51.08 and 15-year-old James Grundy knocked a smart four seconds off his own youthful PB to win an 800m outing in 2:03.26.
ANYIKA ONUORA kept her 2012 bandwagon moving over the weekend with a solid outing over 100m in France.
Competing at the Pro Athlete Tour of Nancy, the 26-year-old clocked 11.32 seconds for the distance to finish second behind in-form French athlete Veronique Mang.
The performance may have fallen short of Onuora’s 11.18 clocking on German soil in May, but the Liverpool Harrier now holds the top two times run over 100m by any British female this year.
