WARRINGTON are to play Russell Crowe’s South Sydney during a pre-season warm-weather training camp in Australia.
The Wolves will meet the Rabbitohs at Coffs Harbour, New South Wales, on February 4 as part of their preparations for Super League XVII.
Warrington usually head to Europe for their warm-weather camp but have opted for a change of scenery following talks with Crowe, the Hollywood actor who part-owns the Rabbitohs.
The challenge match will mean a quick reunion for Australian three-quarter Matt King, who is leaving Warrington at the end of the season to join Souths under new coach Michael Maguire, the current Wigan boss.
Warrington chief executive Andy Gatcliffe said: “A pre-season tour of Australia will be extremely beneficial for both the coaches and players alike and this can only have strong positive benefits for Warrington Wolves’ relationship with both South Sydney Rabbitohs and the wider NRL.
“From a club point of view, warm-weather training, together with trial games in Australia, will certainly take the club to a new development level.”
