Jon Russell proves key to Aigburth’s 117-run win at Mossley Hill in the Merseyside Competition

JON RUSSELL was the key to Aigburth’s 117-run success away to Mossley Hill in Division One of the Bromborough Paints Merseyside Competition.

He followed up a knock of 106 with a 5-40 return.

Maritime v Port Sunlight was the only other survivor in the division on a rain-hit day.

Sunlight won by seven wickets. Wayne Greve led the way with 114 and was given good support by Ian Byrne 43.

Manoj Koralagamage scored 113 for Maritime and Alagiah Suthakaran 43.

Tranmere Vics came away 75-run winners from Bromborough in the only Division Two match played.

Ian Smith made 54 and Jon Bennett took 4-16. Simon Byrne with 68 was best for the losers.

Runcorn lost by six wickets against Weaverham in Division One of the Meller Braggins Cheshire League with the Birkenhead Park v Prestbury clash abandoned.

Chester County Officers held on for a draw at Bunbury in Division Three.

Will Walker 74, Chris Hitchell 54 not out and Tim Hitchell 50 carried Parkonians to a five-wicket margin at Langley in Division One of the Cheshire Alliance. Dave Fletcher claimed 4-74.

Wirral fell by 24 runs away to Appleton.
