BIRKENHEAD PARK’S excellent start to the National Three North season came to an abrupt halt at Chester on Saturday.
Park were hit by the late withdrawal of player coach Tony Handley who was injured in the warm-up.
But Park director of rugby John McNally said: “I was disappointed with our performance as we failed to play to the potential shown in our two previous matches. We made too many errors and were punished accordingly.
“We will have to regroup and prepare for the visit of Bradford & Bingley this week. The competitive nature of this division is already apparent, Chester are the only unbeaten side after just three games and all teams have won at least once. Winning our home games is a top priority and we will be striving to get back to winning ways against the Bees.”
The Park Wanderers enjoyed a 70-point victory in the University of Salford First Division over Preston Grasshoppers. Ollie Mabbut and Adam Cupples both scored hat-tricks.
