BETH TWEDDLE was left to rue a step out of the competition area as she finished seventh in the World Championship floor final in Tokyo.
City of Liverpool Gymnastics Club star Tweddle produced a routine of a high difficulty level but a 0.1-point penalty for the tiny step out of the boundary on a tumble, along with small hops on several other landings, dragged her score down to 14.500.
That left her adrift of Russian Kseniia Afanseva who took the title with a score of 15.133. China’s Lu Sui (15.066) and American Alexandra Raisman (15.000) claimed the other medals.
Tweddle was nevertheless upbeat for next year’s Olympics and said: “This proves I’m still up there with the best as I have the difficulty, I’ve just got to work a lot more on my landings ahead of London.
“The week has been a great success as we achieved our number one aim and we’ve got the British women’s team qualified for 2012, so that’s now the focus.”
