Round-up from the local rugby union teams’ games in Merseyside, Cheshire and West Lancashire

WEST PARK came unstuck in the final quarter at Glossop in South Lancashire/Cheshire One after leading 10-0 at the break thanks to an Andy Sterry try and the conversion and a penalty via Warren Hunt.

It might have been different but for the game going to uncontested scrums in the second-half due to a Park injury.

New Brighton were edged out 21-18 at Ashton-on-Mersey and it was even closer for Hoylake who were on the wrong side of a 21-20 result at Bowdon.

Ormskirk saw off Wigan 27-21 and Collegiate came away 17-14 to the good from Warrington but Orrell were no match for Sale in a 71-6 set-back.

A penalty try and touch downs from James Keegan and Colin Pascoe plus two goals by Wayne Osborne earned a 19-6 victory for Sefton over Southport in Division Two. Ollie Brown landed two penalties for the Seasiders.

Ruskin Park left 56-10 to the good from Ellesmere Port whilst Oldershaw failed 29-10 at home to Oswestry.

Wallasey top Division Three after a 41-19 win at Congleton. Nearest rivals Liverpool University suffered a first defeat 41-5 at Buxton.

Tries from skipper Gareth Price, Alan Williams and Matt Dooley plus a Terry Williams conversion brought a 19-14 success for Parkonians against Linley.

There were also wins for Port Sunlight 60-0 against Helsby and Prenton 32-19 against Knutsford but Capenhurst fell 22-16 at home to Holmes Chapel. Birchfield – 25-16 against Tarleton – and St Edward’s – 16-10 at Bolton – both lost in North Lancashire One. Division Two scores included Crosby St Mary’s 29 Chorley 12 and Manchester Medics 40 Mossley Hill 7.
