Liverpool St Helens cruise to victory over Broughton Park

LIVERPOOL ST HELENS produced another clinical display to overpower Broughton Park and remain top of North One West.

Recording their biggest win over their Manchester rivals for some time, they controlled every aspect of play.

Man-of-the-match Mark Williams set them on their way with a try in the fifth minute, crashing over after quick work from half-backs Alex McClurg and Simon Worsley.

The lead was extended eight minutes later with a try from prop Mark Fryer after a fine 20-metre catch and drive. Worsley then made an excellent break to send in wing Ian Stanley for the third try to give LSH a 19-0 half-time lead.

Immediately on the restart Williams notched his second try to earn LSH’s bonus point before a period in which Broughton Park fought back and enjoyed plenty of possession. Only superb tackling, notably from Paul Bamber, prevented a score until Adi Titiloye broke through on 63 minutes for a try converted by Ronan O’Brien.

LSH reasserted their authority when Dave Cunliffe scored a try in the final minute, the points boosted by Worsley’s fourth conversion.
