LSH’s seven wonders face biggest test of the season

LIVERPOOL St Helens face their biggest test of the season so far this Saturday when travelling from Moss Lane to Moss Farm, the home of Northwich.

The Cheshire outfit are currently in fourth place in North One West and, like LSH, came close to gaining a promotion spot last year.

LSH director of rugby Martin Jones is well aware of the threat posed by this week’s opponents.

“They are a very good rugby side,” he said. “And take the game to its limits. We know what to expect and will simply continue our own brand of rugby and look to continue our good run”.

Since the defeat by Sandbach in early September LSH have won their last seven games and skipper Simon Worsley puts this mainly down to stability and teamwork.

“We came so close last season” he said. “But we learnt a lot and with much the same side are now seeing the benefit.

“We have a steady core of players built around a rock solid pack. Everyone is working hard and playing for each other”.

Worsley reverted to kicking duties last Saturday as LSH beat Broughton Park 33-7, owing to Matt Cunliffe’s absence through injury and was satisfied with his success rate of four conversions from five.

“You never lose it,” he said. However, Martin Jones is hopeful that Cunliffe, having a tremendous season, will be fit in time for Saturday’s encounter.
