LSH in agonising loss

LIVERPOOL ST HELENS lost this pulsating North One West contest against Northwich in agonising fashion, having reached the 80-minute mark 12-8 in front.

Then, in the third minute of time added on, Northwich were awarded a penalty and a five metre line-out followed a well judged kick. The resulting catch and drive brought a try from hooker Chris James and victory for Northwich.

Earlier, an even but entertaining first half had ended with LSH 7-0 in front by virtue of a 10th minute try from Ian Stanley, another 60-metre trademark interception from the alert winger. Matt Cunliffe converted.

A 65th-minute Grant Hallam penalty proved crucial in keeping Northwich in touch as the game moved towards its dramatic end.
