BIRKENHEAD Park were delighted with their latest National Three North victory at Sandal, 19-16.
A late Danny Rich drop goal clinched the win after the home side had drawn level with only minutes remaining. Rich impressed at stand-off with player coach Tony Handley sidelined through injury and he, along with skipper Chris Jones, was the pick of a determined Park outfit.
Jones said: “We dominated the first half but only had a 9-5 advantage at half-time. I thought we definitely deserved the win after leading for almost the entire game.”
This Saturday Park welcome Rossendale, one place above them in third position.
The Wanderers maintained their 100 per cent record with an emphatic 53-0 win over Rossendale at the Upper Park.
Director of rugby John McNally said: “The Wanderers, coach Neil Shaw is doing a great job.”
Another Park coach, Duncan Meehan, has been named as the Merseyside Sports Partnership coach of the year in recognition of his excellent contribution to the Park Panthers Ladies team.
