Blow for Caldy as Vasey is hit by serious injury

CALDY started the brighter and were rewarded with two early penalties in Westoe territory after Westoe were adjudged to have drifted offside.

Richard Vasey kicked the penalties with ease, one of which was from the half way line. Straight from the kick off, Caldy were penalised by the referee and Mark Bedworth showed his class with a well taken penalty. Bedworth kicked a second penalty after 13 minutes to bring the scores level. Westoe were starting to get into the game by now and blind side move saw winger Tommy Banks find acres of space and rounded the full back to score close in. Bedworth kicked the extras. On 28 minutes, Liam Devaney scored his 8th try of the season after great work by Woof and Soutar. Vasey kicked the conversion from the touch line. Mark Bedworth kicked two further penalties in the 30th and 34th minute to give Westoe a well deserved half time score.

The kick off at the beginning of the second half went straight out and quick thinking from John Broxson and Andrew Soutar saw a quick lineout being taken at half way and Soutar drew the full back before feeding Broxson for the score. Vasey converted again and kicked a penalty to stretch the lead to four points. Westoe hit back with a score of their own as a well worked move from a lineout saw centre Walker force his way over under the posts. Bedworth converted. On 52 minutes, Shaun Woof fed Andrew Soutar for another converted Caldy try under the posts. Vasey kicked a further penalty on 68 minutes and a drop goal on 72 minutes to stretch the lead to 10. Richard Vasey suffered a suspected broken ankle after 75 minutes and Bedworth kicked a penalty to earn them an away bonus point.
