BIRKENHEAD PARK were replaced in fourth place by Lymm after surrendering their unbeaten home record in National Three North to third place Rossendale.
Park started well but Rossendale hit Park with a three try salvo in the space of ten minutes which put the visitors firmly in command. Park found themselves 20-3 down at the interval and facing a mountain to climb to get back into the contest.
A determined second-half effort came up against a resolute Rossendale defence and it was not until the 70th minute that Jack Ashcroft crossed for Birkenhead Park’s only try.
Director of rugby John McNally said: “We didn’t help ourselves with some poor tackling but we came back strongly after the break.
“We had plenty of possession but Rossendale’s defence was excellent and we just couldn’t break it down early enough.”
This Saturday Park will be breaking new ground as they make a first ever visit to league newcomers Burnage.
