LIVERPOOL ST HELENS produced one of their best performances of the season to secure a bonus point victory in this well-contested North One West encounter at Leigh.
An excellent all round team performance in which LSH’s pack dominated throughout, was too much for the spirited home side.
Leigh made the brighter start but were unable to capitalise on early chances before LSH scored in the 21st minute with a trademark try from Dave Cunliffe, crashing through the Leigh defence, converted by brother Matt.
LSH, with Neil Hull, Matt Holding and Matt Cunliffe all running strongly, continued to pressure and scored again from a forwards drive which powered over the line for second rower Mark Williams to score, Cunliffe converting.
Scrum half Alex McClurg scored the third try on the stroke of half time when nipping through a tiny gap, again converted by Cunliffe to make it 21-0.
Leigh hit back with a try from Peter Ince before LSH edged further ahead with two Cunliffe penalties. The deserved bonus point try came somewhat fortuitously in the 79th minute when substitute flanker James Burrows gathered a loose ball and ran through to score.
Leigh, not yet done, scored an even later try from Michael Eccles.
