Widnes add new scalp

WIDNES added another scalp to their impressive list of victims in North One West after seeing off their Lancashire visitors.

Tom Carter and Kevin Leadbetter exchanged a brace of penalty goals before, a lovely break from Gareth Riley put Andrew Riley over for a 13-6 half-time lead.

Gareth Riley’s try on 47 minutes gave the home side their lead.

Another penalty from Carter reduced the arrears before Riley scored a spectacular effort.

The 27-9 deficit finally saw Vale explode into life and two spectacular efforts from Hadden and Alex Morrison saw the arrears reduced to just six points. Widnes had enough left in the tank though, and man of the match Pieu Liku wrapped things up late on with another try.
