ANSELMIANS went to Reeds Lane to take on New Brighton in the semi-final of the Cheshire Vase and came away with a hard-fought victory.
It was a local derby game dominated by the respective defences but it was Anselmians who came out on top in the end.
Such was the tightly-contested match, it was 0-0 after 60 minutes, with Simon Mason eventually breaking the deadlock with a penalty to give the lead to the visiting team.
Both defences had spirit and determination and it was a question of who would give way.
It was Anselmians who got the breakthrough right at the death with number eight Loa Tupou going over in the corner to give a score of 8-0 to the visitors.
Anselmians have now made the final three years in a row.
They now also have two wins from two but next face a tough away game at Rochdale.
