BIRKENHEAD were made to fight hard for this latest win in National Three North League against a determined Penrith team.
Greg Hughes registered an early try after a 30-metre dash with Dave Hall converting but the Cumbrians hit back when Ed Swale held on to a cross kick to go over with the conversion making it 7-7 at the break.
Park, playing in front of players who helped make up the side in their centenary season 40 years ago, monopolised the second-half play but simply could not find a way through against dogged opposition.
Hall restored their lead with a penalty on the hour, but they were glad to hear the final whistle.
