BRITAIN’S Giles Scott won the Finn world title in the absence of Ben Ainslie, who was disqualified on Saturday.
Scott added the World Championship to the European crown he already held on the first finals day in Perth, Western Australia, which saw three British crews win medals across four classes.
Ed Wright won bronze, also in the Finn class, while Luke Patience and Stuart Bithell claimed silver in the 470 men’s.
The 24-year-old Scott started the day in overall first place in the heavyweight dinghy fleet after Ainslie’s elimination following a confrontation with the media boat, and needed to finish no more than one place behind Holland’s Pieter Jan Postma to clinch gold. Scott said: “Obviously I’m over the moon – it’s taken me back a little bit.”
