CALDY suffered their second successive loss by a narrow margin last weekend when Preston Grasshoppers completed the home and away double with an 18-20 victory.
This was a game Caldy could and should have probably won and but for some resolute defence from the visitors, may well have taken four points as opposed to one.
This weekend, Caldy travel the short distance to Stockport for their last game in 2011.
Head Coach Stuart Turner said: “It was a disappointing result, which could have gone either way. We put ourselves in a position to win the game going two scores up and then didn’t kick on and play our normal game. We should have put them out of sight.
“We left the door open and they took advantage and we only started to play again in the last 10 minutes which was too late.
“This Saturday, will be tough against a good Stockport side.
“We had a good home result against them two months ago when we played really well at Paton field and won.
“We are expecting it to be just as hard and will be working hard all week to put things right this weekend.”
Director of Rugby Simon Wright said: “Last week was a tough one for the lads with Gavin Roberts having a cancer scare but we are delighted that following surgery, it has been confirmed that the tumour is benign and he is recovering well. We look forward to him coming back.
“We were also unlucky to lose Shaun Woof on the morning of the game against Preston through illness and he will be back this weekend.
“With so many enforced changes, it was encouraging to see our performance. Whilst it would have been preferable to win, we only lost by two points and can take great heart from that.
“We will go into this weekend’s game looking to erase the memory of the last two weeks and get back to winning ways.”
Caldy second XV and third XV are at home this weekend against Sedgeley Tigers and Altrincham Kersal respectively (kick off 2.15pm)
