DAVE ALEXANDER spearheaded West Cheshire AC’s charge to promotion at Leek.
The distance-running ace headed the Chester & Ellesmere Port club men’s team home to ensure his club finished top of the four round Division Two standings in the North Staffs Cross Country League.
He covered the 10k course at Westwood High School in 34:41 to finish ninth, and was backed up by Stephen Skates (18th in 35:32), Andrew Clague (44th in 37:54), Mark Davies (94th in 41:50), and Dave Hough (160th in 47:22).
Alexander, who secured the runners-up over-40 men’s individual prize, steered his club to a Division One place for next season’s series of races.
Hough claimed third overall in the over 60 veteran age group, and Mary Radford won the over-65 veteran women’s prize after finishing 105th with a 5km time of 45:19 at the final round, behind senior lady Laura Bestow who clocked 27:26 for 14th position.
Ian Wetherall represented West Cheshire AC at the Liverpool & District Cross-Country League race staged at Stadt Moers Park, Knowsley, and finished fifth in 32:03.
James Docherty headed West Cheshire AC’s contingent at the third round of the Borders Road Running League hosted by Tattenhall Runners.
He was seventh around the 10k course in a time of 34:34.
WEST Cheshire AC are now accepting entries for the popular Chester Walls Race celebrating its 40th anniversary from Chester Racecourse on Boxing Day. Online entry forms can be obtained at www.ukforms.net/onlineforms/php/Applicant.php?EventID=1290
The fixture will be supplemented by a one mile fun run around the inside of the racecourse and entries will be accepted on the day.
