Dickinson the real deal as Caldy down Ionians

CALDY started the new year in style as they defeated a well organised Hull Ionians side 27-17.

Ionians were difficult to break down but a brace of tries from Dickinson and a try from Salisbury proved the difference in a game played between two sides trying to play rugby in testing conditions.

The first half proved difficult for both sides and, despite having good territory, they failed to get over the whitewash. David Marshall kicked a penalty for Hull Ionians after 15 minutes and Andrew Soutar replied with two for Caldy in a low scoring first half.

Caldy came out after the break with the bit between their teeth and after some good possession, Broxson linked well with Salisbury who powered over from close range. Soutar converted.

From the kick-off, Caldy took possession of the ball again and after a series of plays Shaun Woof fed JJ Dickinson who raced under the posts for a good score. Soutar converted.

Ionians were awarded a penalty try after 57 minutes but Caldy hit back through Dickinson on 68 minutes who broke free of two tacklers to score at close range.

Ionians finished the scoring with a further penalty try but it was Caldy who took the spoils.
