ANSELMIANS showed they have character in recorded a 14-3 win against a strong Leigh side.
Head coach Simon Mason said: “Considering we have taken some stick about our defensive frailities, this was a pleasing win in many ways.
“We were dogged in defence and were determined to defend well and that’s what we did. We had the right attiude and commitment and that was shown in abundance from man of the match Martin Gerrard playing in the back row.
“This is a very promising youngster.”
Having got four points from this game, Anselmians now turn their attention to another home fixture on Saturday against fellow strugglers Wilmslow. Mason added: “It is vital we get something out of this game to keep our heads above water as the teams below us are also picking up points.
“The step up to this level has been difficult but we have shown in the last couple of weeks that we can do well if we put our minds to it.”
