RUGBY UNION: Widnes warm up for Wigton

WIDNES face Wigton on Saturday in a re-arranged North One West fixture at Heath Road (2.15pm).

The game was originally scheduled for mid-December, but fell victim to a waterlogged pitch.

They will be anxious to get this one played following the late cancellation of last weekend’s game against Wilmslow because of a frozen pitch.

Missing out on the game meant that Lee McDermott’s side drop from second to fourth in the table after Liverpool St Helens and Northwich both took advantage to overtake them.

McDermott is acutely aware that the Cumbrian side will be very dangerous opponents despite their lowly league position.

He said: “They have put in some top performances in recent weeks, and with three successive home wins under their belt, they will come to Heath Road full of confidence. We will have to be on top form.”
