BIRKENHEAD PARK produced a thrilling finale to overcome neighbours Chester 17-16 in the National Three North derby on Saturday.
Chester had built up a 13-0 lead in the first half Director of rugby John McNally said: “I thought we were dead and buried, we failed to produce any pressure of note until the penalty try award. The transformation was remarkable and all credit to the team for turning the match round in the closing minutes.”
It was a double celebration for Park with the Wanderers also victorious, 32-17, against Chester 2nds in the Raging Bull Cup match played on the lower pitch. The Park Tigers also succeeded 41-7 against Sefton in the Raging Bull Trophy.
President Mark McNally said: “ Overall it was an excellent day for the club.”
This Saturday Park welcome Altrincham Kersal to the Upper Park with the east Cheshire side, battling to move away from the relegation zone fresh rom victory over Lymm.
