Rugby union: Normal service resumed for Wids

WIDNES were delighted to see normal service resumed last weekend when they saw off the challenge of Wigton.

It followed on from the disappointment of the late cancellation at Wilmslow and the home defeat against Northwich.

Helped along by Liverpool St Helens’ home defeat against Rochdale, Lee McDermott’s side were able to lift themselves back into second place in the North One West table, with a game in hand over their Merseyside rivals.

However, as they are acutely aware, the challenges come thick and fast in this division, and Leigh provide the next opposition when they travel to Heath Road this Saturday on a revenge mission following a defeat at the hands of the new boys back in October.

This will be a vital game for Widnes as they face three away games on the road after that before locking horns with leaders Sandbach back at HQ in early March.

The game kicks off at 2.15pm.
