WITH just one game played in National Three North last weekend courtesy of the synthetic pitch at Burnage, Waterloo will take the opportunity to get a number of their senior players back to full fitness.
“In all honesty we were not to too unhappy with our game at home to Bradford and Bingley being called off as we had a number of players doubtful for selection,” admitted director of rugby Jan Van Deventer.
“Back row Jack Weir, lock Alex Reid and centre Andrew Trotter were to have late fitness tests before we finally decided the starting line up.
“If we had included them, none would have been 100 per cent.
“As it is we now have an extra week to get them ready for action.”
Although disappointed at the result against Chester, Waterloo did at least manage a losing bonus point and are now comfortable in 7th place and 12 points above the relegation zone.
“We are where we want to be at the moment but I would like us to to widen the gap between us and the bottom three sides sooner rather than later,” Deventer stated.
“Of course we would hope to finish in the top half.
“But our number one target is to take the points from the Bradford and Bingley game this Saturday.”
