AFTER being well beaten at Wilmslow the previous week, LSH returned to winning ways against a determined Leigh side.
With both Widnes and Northwich slipping up it now leaves the Moss Laners back in control of the race to the National Three North play-off spot.
Despite the absence of midfield talisman Dave Cunliffe (illness), LSH where quick off the blocks and raced to an early 12-0 lead. The rest of the game was very much an arm wrestle with both sides having periods of dominance. However coaches Martin Jones and Phil Boulton will no doubt be pleased with the defensive effort of their team.
LSH now have a week off to prepare for the crucial match against Widnes, which will go a long way to deciding who will take the play-off spot. An LSH win would eliminate Widnes from the equation, but a Widnes win takes it to the final game.
Jones will be hoping Cunliffe can shake off his illness as well as sweating on injury concerns Mark Devine, Paul Bamber and Alisdair Sutherland. One player not available for selection is club president and scoreboard operator Ray French MBE who picked up an arm injury in the LSH casuals victory over Leigh vets.
Ray’s cameo appearance came to an abrupt end when he was ‘shooed’ out of a ruck and collected a stray boot to his arm. Ray has confirmed that the injury is not serious and he hopes to be back in action soon!
