JONNY WILKINSON may have moved into the autumn of his career, but some things never change as a group of girls from Liverpool St Helens discovered recently on a visit to his French club Toulon.
The England World Cup winner and former Newcastle Falcons fly-half has always spared more time than most to accommodate RU devotees wanting his autograph and a chat and after the Toulon v Toulouse game in which he picked up a shoulder injury that needed a hospital check-up, he again demonstrated that characteristic by spending 40 minutes chatting, posing for pictures and signing autographs for the girls before heading for the medical centre.
Their audience with Jonny was part of a highly successful weekend trip by the LSH girls, who made many new friends and have been invited back next year.
On the playing front, the Under-15s won their game 84-0 while the Under-18s were beaten 25-15 in a sevens game against an undefeated district team containing a couple of France U20 internationals.
The France trip was the perfect finale for the LSH girls teams, who were both celebrating excellent seasons.
The Under-18s enjoyed a remarkable campaign, losing only one league fixture and finishing the campaign with both the best attack and defensive records, while the Under-15s finished runners-up with only two defeats.
