Rugby union round-up: Liverpool St Helens

LIVERPOOL ST HELENS remain unbeaten in North One West following their high-scoring draw against old adversaries Altrincham Kersal.

In a game which swung first one way and then another, both sides will believe that they should have won. In the final analysis, both can reflect on two points won and look forward to successful campaigns.

Director of rugby Martin Jones was particularly pleased at the composure and discipline shown by his side, ultimately reflected in the penalty count.

“We need to maintain that type of performance,” he said. “Building up gradually, sharpening our attack and see where it takes us”.

For this week’s visit to Wilmslow, Jones and his assistant Phil Boulton have more selection posers with the return into consideration of Greg Smith and Alex Martland.

With no injuries and a full squad on the training ground, the team are once again picking from strength.

“It’s a good position to be in,“ said Jones. “It is not easy, however, as only 18 can play.”
